The Future of Brokerages

Earlier this year, real estate brokers from across Canada took part in a half day of discussion and learning during CREA’s Spring Broker Summit: The Future of Brokerages.

Throughout the event we heard from brokers who have continued to learn and adjust throughout seemingly endless shifts in Canadian real estate. They shared insights about: the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic; recruitment and talent development; as well as residential and commercial markets. Of course, many of the changes that have occurred have been accelerated over the past 18 months, faster than anyone would have imagined, and the real estate industry has adapted to the new environment. So, we aimed to dive into some of the most pressing topics and compare perspectives from brokers in many different regions, as we move into another phase of operating under fluctuating levels of normalcy.

A Post-Pandemic Domino Effect

At one panel discussion we opened the conversation to talk about potential post-pandemic office disruptions, and quickly learned how those impact not only commercial office space, but also the retention of younger REALTORS®, and the learning curve they now face that is in many cases harder to overcome. It also led us to ask about where this leaves the status of investments, leasing and development. Watch as the panel discusses this domino effect.

FAQs About New FINTRAC Obligations

CREA’s Legal Counsel, and Chief Privacy Officer Simon Parham took on the next large topic of conversation as he presented the new FINTRAC Regime changes that took effect on June 1, 2021. Parham answered many frequently asked questions about some of the finer points of the new regulations, and gave us a view into what REALTORS® really need to know. Check out this presentation, and learn where to direct any additional questions on the subject.

A New Generation of Home Buyers

Another theme creating a lot of buzz has been how a new generation of home buyers are navigating the market, what REALTORS® are doing to stand out, and how the two parties can operate side-by-side. From the perspective of brokers: how can they support these relationships, and does that change communication methods, or marketing efforts? Listen-in to hear how our panel of brokers have been adapting to answer these questions.

Dawn Faithfull is CREA’s Communications Coordinator, so whether you know it or not, you’ve probably read something she’s written.
