The Rio Olympics may be over; but another epic competition has just begun

Team Canada certainly had us on the edges of our seats this summer. Although the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Rio have come to a close, there’s another epic competition taking place right now and we here at CREA are pretty pumped about it!

You could say the competitors are “amateurs” in that they haven’t quit their day jobs as busy real estate professionals to focus on their other passions. It’s hard to believe how they find the time. These competitors don’t push themselves to the limits for the glory or gold medals; they do it to improve the lives of others.

I’m talking about the nominees for the Canadian REALTORS Care® Award 2017 Proudly Presented by REM. This elite group of accomplished fundraisers and dedicated volunteers will be growing in membership up until our nomination deadline of December 2. We need as many deserving REALTORS® in the competition as possible to make sure we find the best of the best to represent the REALTOR® community on a national stage next March.

That’s where you come in. Please let us know all about the fellow REALTOR® who inspires you with their outstanding contributions to charity by submitting a nomination. Start by downloading our nomination form here.

If your nominee is selected as our “winner” (although in this competition, they’re truly all winners), they will be presented with their award at CREA’s 2017 AGM in Ottawa. CREA and the Foundation will share their story nationally and shine a spotlight on the charity or charities they support. To top it off, their charity of choice will receive a $5,000 donation in their honour.

Speaking of winners, we’d like to take a moment to recognize our inaugural award winner, Vince Mirabelli of Thunder Bay. It was recently announced that he is one of only five honorable mentions for REALTOR® Magazine’s 2016 Good Neighbor Awards. The Good Neighbor Awards, now in their 17th year, are presented annually by our friends south of the border, the National Association of REALTORS®. This is an amazing accomplishment. Vince is the first-ever non-American finalist for this prestigious annual award. Congratulations, Vince. The REALTOR® community in Canada is proud of you!

Sarah Thirnbeck, Associate Director, Strategic Impact, oversees CREA's national REALTORS Care® program, which aims to celebrate the amazing charitable achievements of REALTORS® across Canada and further foster a spirit of giving in our industry.
