YPN Summit: The youth movement continues to grow in real estate

For the third straight year, REALTORS® from across Canada came together for the national Young Professionals Network (YPN) Summit. This year’s summit was held in Ottawa in conjunction with CREA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Leadership Summit.

“It is critical to have professional networks like YPNs to make sure that we continue to support emerging leaders in the industry and provide the right environment to nurture the next generation of REALTORS®,” said CREA’s President, Barb Sukkau.

How to break the traditional business mold and thinking about ways to grow, expand and curate your business were the biggest takeaways.

Attendees heard tips and tricks on:

  • creating an effective personal brand to build better customer relationships through stronger communication and online content;
  • building strategic business plans that allow for flexibility and adaptation to changing trends and technologies; and
  • tying together business with charitable and social impact initiatives.

Collaboration and leadership were topics raised as important priorities by attendees. Discussions focused on how REALTORS® can better work together and leverage YPNs to facilitate and foster new opportunities within their boards and associations, in their communities, and at the national level. The REALTORS® in attendance also took some time out to engage in a little friendly competition, all for a good cause (Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa).

Young and new professionals in the industry are bringing a broad and diverse range of experiences and skill sets to their careers as real estate professionals. The YPN movement allows the next generation of REALTORS® to share their unique ideas and new business perspectives with boards and associations, providing opportunities to be part of decision making processes that affect their future and for generations to come.
