Buying or selling a property can be a challenge. There are a myriad laws, regulations and policies to navigate. Any number of factors can affect buyers, sellers and owners. As a REALTOR®, you can help.
And we at CREA are here to help you. This is why we regularly produce publications on a variety of issues relevant to the public, boards/associations and REALTORS®. Today, we’re highlighting some of the popular free publications available to you.
These resources aim to help you understand federal legislation and regulations that impact your business, allowing you to adapt and communicate changes with your clients.
The Homebuyers’ Road Map is a public information toolkit to help home buyers make informed decisions and planning when choosing a home. This project is a collaboration between the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC).
You can also experience the interactive Home Buying Journey Edition.
Cannabis grow operations may seem like they belong on TV crime dramas, but reality places them much closer to home. Today in Canada, drugs are being cultivated and manufactured behind the facades of any type of building REALTORS® might encounter during regular business. They pose both potential health and safety risks, not to mention significant legal and ethical responsibilities.
Please note provinces and territories may have their own rules/requirements with respect to cannabis. You may wish to seek legal advice or contact your provincial regulator or real estate association if you have any questions.
Radon, a colourless, odorless and tasteless gas formed by the natural breakdown of uranium in the earth, can seep from the ground, posing health risks in homes. Radon is radioactive, and potentially carcinogenic if enough of the gas builds up. This publication outlines the possible health risks of radon and what your clients can do to alleviate risks posed by exposure.
CREA worked collaboratively with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to produce A Homeowner’s Guide to Energy Efficiency, a publication aimed at providing buyers and sellers with useful information about energy efficiency upgrades they can make to their homes.
The notion homeownership creates advantages for families and individuals is not new. The benefits of owning a home have been the subject of numerous surveys, analysis, and research for decades.
While Canadians may be familiar with the financial benefits—homes provide a chance for owners to build equity and are a major source of wealth for millions of households across the country—they may not be as familiar with the non-financial benefits of homeownership. These include a wide array of civic, educational, health, and socio-cultural benefits to one’s family and the broader society.
By examining data and research from Canada, the United States, Europe, and elsewhere around the world, CREA has authored The Homeownership Dividend for Canadians showcasing the contributing factors to, and outcomes of, the widespread positive effects of homeownership.
Nanos Consumer Survey
CREA and Nanos Research conducted a survey to gauge consumer sentiment and overall satisfaction around working with a REALTOR®. The goal was to learn more about what factors consumers cite for choosing to enlist the help of a REALTOR®, as well as why they would choose not to.
