REALTORS Care® Days Looks to Foster Greater REALTOR® Volunteerism

From 2019-2022, REALTORS Care® Week united REALTORS® across Canada through hands-on volunteering activities in support of housing and shelter-related charities. Starting in 2024, REALTORS Care® Days will build on the momentum we’ve created together through REALTORS Care® Week, but with greater flexibility and tailored coverage for events.

REALTORS Care® Days are a series of hands-on volunteering initiatives in support of housing and shelter-related causes taking place in communities across Canada. The events will be hosted by real estate boards and associations throughout the year and give REALTORS® the chance to come together and spend time giving back to their community. Boards and associations can now book their 2024 REALTORS Care® Day at the most opportune time of year them, their members and their community partners.

CREA hosts inaugural REALTORS Care® Day

To celebrate the launch of this program, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) hosted its inaugural REALTORS Care® Day on January 24, 2024. Members of CREA’s Board of Directors spent the day at Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Kemptville Korners build site. Throughout the day, volunteers helped prepare affordable housing units for families looking to lay their roots in the Ottawa region by completing a number of tasks including strapping ceilings and preparing the homes for siding.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa’s Kemptville Korners development consists of 15 affordable townhomes and stacked townhomes, including accessible, barrier-free units that 64 individuals, including more than 30 children, will call home.

“CREA’s Board of Directors was thrilled to help Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa get these affordable homes ready for 15 families,” shared CREA Chair-Elect, James Mabey, “Today was a very rewarding experience, and I encourage REALTORS® across the country to volunteer their time at a REALTORS Care® Day when they get the opportunity.”

How CREA is supporting initiatives

By spreading this initiative out over the year we have more time to focus on each participating board and association, both in terms of support and coverage. CREA’s REALTORS Care® team will be there to provide new and trusted resources in support of planning efforts. Boards and associations can expect:

  • A $1,000 bursary for REALTORS Care® Day-related expenses.
  • A detailed REALTORS Care® Day Guidebook to support your planning journey.
  • REALTORS Care® Days Roundtable Sessions to connect event organizers.
  • Social media and email templates to help spread the word and cover your REALTORS Care® Day.

“We’re hoping that REALTORS® participate from all parts of the country and get in contact with their boards and associations to find out when their REALTORS Care® Day is going to be so that they can participate so that we can show, united across the country, how much REALTORS® care about their communities,” said Janice Myers, CREA’s Chief Executive Officer.

In terms of coverage, the REALTORS Care® team will weave together a national, year-long story, similar to what we’ve done for REALTORS Care® Weeks in the past, with stops in participating communities along the way. We will look for opportunities to promote your REALTORS Care® Day in the lead-up, and share your story on social media and REALTORSCare.ca.

At the end of each year, we’ll set aside some time to reflect on, and celebrate, the collective impact REALTORS® have had on housing and shelter causes across Canada.
