Introducing the CREA Stats Centre: when REALTORS® need data—stat!

The CREA Stats Boutique just got a makeover!

Introducing the new CREA Stats Centre—a one-stop shop for MLS® System statistics, the national news release, aggregate data from the national, provincial and board level, plus more detailed statistics broken down by local areas and property types.

The redesigned site will make it easier for members to access a plethora of statistics.

According to Chris Jokel, one of the economists here at CREA, the changes were necessary to make the site more accessible and user-friendly to less tech-savvy folks. The new site will also create a more “natural flow” for locating and accessing information.

“The user interaction will run more smoothly,” says Jokel, “because once you click on where you want to get your data from, the whole process just guides you through—and it’s a lot more intuitive than it was previously.”

The streamlined version of the site is broken down into three main sections: aggregate statistics, unit statistics and press releases. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll find in each of those sections.

Aggregate statistics

These are stats both on a national and provincial level for residential properties, including things such as sales, new listings, active listings, average price and months of inventory.

The seasonally adjusted figures will be especially helpful for REALTORS®.

“Obviously, sales are much higher in the spring and summer than they are in the winter,” says Jokel. “The seasonally adjusted data takes into account those normal seasonal fluctuations and removes those so you can meaningfully compare one month to the next.”

Unit statistics (the nitty-gritty)

This section allows the user to access information on a market level where, as Jokel says, “you can really get down to the very nitty-gritty.”

Searches can be broken down into specific criteria, such as single-detached, semi-detached, townhomes and apartments, rather than just overall residential data.

“It’s a richer data set,” says Jokel. “You have not just sales and active listings, but you have median price, median days on market, and so forth.”

National News Release

In this final section, members can access CREA’s monthly national news releases.

“The full news release and the tables are included here just for reference as a PDF document on the site,” says Jokel.

The aesthetic and practical upgrades are designed to make it much easier for members to access “a whole host of data” they need for their work.

“It basically provides REALTORS® with the market intelligence that they need to educate both themselves and their clients on sales trends, supply trends and pricing trends in their local market and to see how these have been evolving over time.”

With changes designed to make the site easier to use and more pleasing to the eye, with greater access to critical details, the new CREA Stats Centre promises to be an invaluable resource for REALTORS®.
