Practicing REALTOR® Safety at Work and Online

According to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), 75% of REALTORS® who participate in a REALTOR® Safety course say they feel more prepared for the unknown after taking it.

To highlight the importance of safe practices within the industry and spotlight REALTOR® Safety Month, we’ve launched a new REALTOR® safety eLearning program. Available to members through CREA’s Learning Hub, the program features two eLearning modules structured to offer real estate professionals an opportunity to review practical advice and strategies aimed at mitigating potential dangers, whether working in communities or virtually.

Navigating REALTOR® Safety

Picture this: A visitor arrives at an open house you’re hosting for a client just as you’re locking up. They mention the listing details sound perfect and express their interest in touring the property as soon as possible. What do you do?

In the first module, Navigating REALTOR® Safety, we explore a series of potentially unsafe scenarios and outcomes. We cover questions like:

  • What should I do to stay safe at an open house?
  • How can I stay safe showing isolated or abandoned properties?
  • What should I do in the case of harassment from colleagues or clients?
  • What steps can I take to prevent theft?

Through interactive activities and reflection, this module will help you be more safety-conscious as you navigate your day to day responsibilities.

This module is available to members now via CREA’s Learning Hub.

Raising Cybersecurity Awareness

Imagine: You’re closing a property deal for a seller client when they call you frantically explaining they’ve received an email from their real estate lawyer detailing “additional closing costs” that amounted to more than $5,000. The email contained an attachment with specific wire transfer instructions. Having just spoken to their lawyer over the phone, they didn’t think twice before clicking on the attachment and following the instructions. What advice could you have offered?

Technology can help REALTORS® balance their workload and create streamlined experiences for their clients. While it’s a fantastic business tool, it’s not without its risks. In this second module, Raising Cybersecurity Awareness, we explore the balance between online visibility and cyber safety.

The content focuses on common scams and fraud, how to report a cyberattack, the potential risks on social media, and current safety and security technology. This course includes suggestions on how REALTORS® can protect themselves, their businesses and their clients.

Stay tuned, Raising Cybersecurity Awareness will be available later this fall via CREA’s Learning Hub.
